The allegations against Dr Arunoday Arunoday were set out in documents for a hearing at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS), though no criminal proceedings were referenced in the document.
A hearing to decide on the allegations began on Tuesday (November 11) and is set to last until November 26.
The allegations relate to incidents said to have occurred between June 1, 2021 and August 12, 2021 whilst Dr Arunoday was working as a Consultant at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
The allegations first state that he sent a nurse, referred to as Nurse A, a ‘large quantity of messages’, some of which were of a sexual nature, aggressive and contained images of his genitals.
It also alleges he asked her inappropriate questions, told her he ‘wanted to do sexual things’ to her, was watching her location, and made other explicit comments.
It is then alleged that he video called Nurse A and showed her his penis and asked her to have sex in an on-call room.
The allegations then state that, while at work, Dr Arunoday tried to kiss Nurse A, and had sex with her, throughout which it is further alleged that he ignored her telling him to stop, put his hand over her mouth, placed his arm across her chest and put his body weight on top of her.
The document alleges these actions were carried out without Nurse A’s consent and without his reasonable belief she consented.
It is further alleged that he then showed up to Nurse A’s home uninvited, where he tried to kiss her and again had sexual intercourse with her.
The document states that on this occasion, he also touched Nurse A’s breast, which Dr Arunoday has admitted.
The MPTS allegations state that during this, he ignored her telling him to stop, pushed her onto a bed by her shoulders and pinned her there, all of which was allegedly without her consent or reasonable belief of her consent.
The final allegations state that he asked Nurse A if she wanted to have sex with him, asked if he could kiss Nurse A, put his hand on Nurse A’s leg, and stroked Nurse A’s hand.
It is alleged in the document that all of the actions set out constituted sexual harassment as it was unwanted conduct of a sexual nature which had the purpose or effect of violating the dignity of Nurse A, or creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for Nurse A.
Dr Arunoday is accused of committing the acts in an ‘abuse of his more senior position’.
