Deviation Games, the new studio founded by Call of Duty veteran Jason Blundell, was announced to much fanfare in 2021. The team was working with PlayStation on a “brand-new original IP”.
But Blundell eventually left and the studio was shuttered in 2024.
Now we have a better idea of what the developer was working on, courtesy of some concept art spotted by MP1st.
The images – which we’ve traced back to former Lead Concept Artist Michael Lacek – confirm a sci-fi theme, with one illustration in particular showing a beautiful cosmic scene.
Other artwork shows various weaponry concepts, including one called a Power Glove, with tesla coils and other interesting details.
There’s also artwork of a bearded character named Berserker, which we assume would have been a playable class-type character.
Given many of the staff at Deviation Games were poached from Treyarch, specifically the Call of Duty Zombies mode, it’s likely whatever the team was working on would have been some kind of co-op first-person shooter.
Of course, the project is long dead now and these concepts will never see the light of day.
But curiously, Blundell has since re-joined Sony as part of Dark Outlaw Games, a new first-party developer which was officially acknowledged by the platform holder earlier this year.
Hopefully that studio has more luck than Deviation Games, and is able to see its project through to completion.
