Influential English alternative rock band, Inspiral Carpets, became one of the defining sounds of the late 80s and early 90s.

The band was formed in Oldham, Greater Manchester in 1983, and consists of Tom Hingley (vocals), Craig Gill (drums), Graham Lambert (guitar), Martyn Walsh (bass), and Clint Boon (organ/vocals).

Alongside The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, they were central to the Madchester movement, a cultural explosion that shaped a generation of British music.

Bassist Martyn Walsh said: “It feels quite bittersweet performing but exciting.

“Bittersweet because our bandmate Craig Gill passed away in 2016, and we felt like that was it.

“It doesn’t feel the same, but life’s too short, and it just felt right to go back on tour.

“Now we have a fresh perspective. We love what we do, and it reminds us of why we started in the first place.

“We’ve found a new enthusiasm, all we care about is putting on a good show and giving it our best.”

Inspiral Carpets achieved thirteen UK Top 40 singles, including classics such as This Is How It Feels and Saturn 5.

Walsh said the band embraces the changes in technology and music since their early days.

“It’s very exciting to see a new generation discovering our music. I’d love to see a lot of young people at our show as well as all age groups.”

Fans can also expect new material next year, and Walsh hinted that favourites like Sackville and I Want You are sure to get a big reaction on the night.

“We cannot wait to meet everyone, and hope everyone enjoys the show!”

For dedicated fans, VIP tickets include access to the band’s soundcheck, a Q&A session, exclusive signed merchandise and a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl.

The band will be performing at the O2 Institute on Saturday, December 6.
