A Good Morning Britain star has been showered with support from fans after sharing a heart-wrenching family update on social media.

Katy Rickitt, who joined the ITV morning show as a news correspondent in 2012, has reported on a variety of stories over the years.

Away from the small screen, Katy is wedded to actor Adam Rickitt, famed for his role as Nick Tilsley on Coronation Street between 1997 and 2004.

Their paths first crossed when Katy interviewed soap star Adam on GMB in 2011, leading to their nuptials three years later in a magical winter wedding in December 2014.

In addition to their individual successful careers, the couple also run an artisan bottle shop named Dexter and Jones, situated in Knutsford, Cheshire, reports Wales Online.

However, this week saw Katy take to Instagram to share some distressing news about their cherished pet, Talluah. Alongside a snap of her snuggling the cute pooch, Katy penned: “First of all I almost forgot how wonderful you all are so thank you so much.

“I put this up on my story last night because I was having a really emotional moment with Tallulah and have been inundated with lovely messages, thank you guys.

“So just wanted to explain what’s going on, as I’ll probably have a few of these! And also it may help someone. Over the last few months Tallulah has started having fits, the first few were awful. If we could spot it in time we could hold her through it and make it better but if not they were violent and heartbreaking. So we took her to the vets and had to face the terrifying thought that she may have a brain tumour.”

Katy continued: “But before we were forced to accept, that we decided to do an ultrasound and some bloods in the vain hope it might not be. Turns out Tallulah had Toxoplasma…. A parasite dogs get from eating cat poo which is why I wanted you all to know.

“Don’t let them eat the stuff as older dogs can really suffer for it. The parasite also exists in raw meat. She’s now almost through a mega course of antibiotics and is permanently on anti-seizure medication… which we are balancing because a higher dose seems to make her unable to stand.”

She added: “Her seizures stopped, but just this week have restarted but much less intense… she foams at the mouth and looks disoriented but doesn’t fit. Because we don’t want to put her through an mri, we just don’t know if the toxo has damaged her brain… or indeed if she does have a tumour AS WELL.

“So the late night pics are because she is my soul dog, and I can’t stop staring at her. To me she is just the most perfect soul and I just want to inhale every moment with her… just in case. So it’s not a short-term thing (oh god I hope not) but I will keep you posted … in the meantime cuddle your babies… just in case. Because being a dog mama is just like being any mama… except we know we’re going to lose them first.”

Supportive messages flooded in from Katy and Adam’s fans in the comments section. One person expressed: “Sending love to you all.” Another penned: “Sending hugs to you both. Their unconditional love is everything.”

A third fan added: “Awww bless you all sending u all huge hugs and kisses tallulah knows she is in safe hands with you and Adam and knows you are there to love and support her.”

Good Morning Britain airs Monday to Friday at 6am on ITV1.
