A bear was culled after it entered a commercial building in Japan’s northeastern prefecture of Akita on Sunday. Police say no one was injured.
Police received a report at around 11:20 a.m. that workers had confined a bear inside a facility operated by Japanese retail giant Aeon in the city of Noshiro.
Police say the bear was about 80 centimeters long, and that it remained on the first floor. They cordoned off the facility and restricted traffic on nearby roads.
City officials say Akita prefectural staff later tranquilized the bear with a blow dart. The animal was culled in the afternoon.
The facility is located in a residential neighborhood, about 1 kilometer northwest of JR Noshiro Station.
