Myers was a Premier League regular for Chelsea in the 1990s and went on to become a coach in the Premier League club’s youth set-up, where he previously worked alongside Viveash.

The 52-year-old has also been part of the first team coaching staff at Vitesse and Millwall, and Boro say he’s “stepped in to assist in the short term”.

Boro are closing in on the appointment of Kim Hellberg as their new head coach but, as reported by the Northern Echo this morning, Viveash is still expected to be in charge for Saturday’s Championship game at Oxford. He stepped in to lead the side against Birmingham City before the international break and will lead training at Rockliffe this week.

Viveash is hugely popular with Boro’s officials and players and if, as expected, Hellberg takes charge, the 56-year-old will be part of his coaching team.

Hellberg is now in pole position to replace Rob Edwards as Boro’s next head coach.

Boro held talks with the 37-year-old in London last week and the Hammarby boss looks set to turn down Swansea to take charge at the Riverside.

Reports in Sweden claim Hellberg’s Hammarby release clause is £270k, and that negotiations are taking place for him to be joined on Teesside by his assistant David Selini, 31.
