Some new plans about Spider-Man’s MCU future have reportedly been revealed.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will release Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, next summer. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie will once again see Tom Holland play Peter Parker/Spider-Man, while Jon Bernthal also reprises his role as Frank Castle/Punisher.

Beyond that, it hasn’t been revealed what Spider-Man’s MCU future may look like. It’s assumed that he’ll show up in either (or both) Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, though that has not been officially confirmed by Marvel at this time.

What is the new Spider-Man MCU update?

Scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus was asked if there were plans to introduce new versions of Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus — meaning, not the versions played by Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina, both of whom appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home — for Holland to fight.

Perez answered, “Yes, definitely. And the way that Marvel is handling it in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is going to mirror what the MCU will do for Spidey’s story moving forward. It won’t be a 1:1, but the story beats are going to parallel, kind of like how some story beats in the MCU parallel the stories in What If…?”

This is only a rumor and should be treated as such at this time as, again, there haven’t been any plans that have been normally announced regarding what comes next for Holland’s Spider-Man after Brand New Day.

Many have also been speculating about Miles Morales being introduced into the MCU at some point soon, especially given that the character plays a big role in the Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić Secret Wars comic storyline. There’s always the possibility that Miles could have a Green Goblin/Doctor Octopus storyline, though Kevin Feige has previously said that they likely won’t do anything with the character until Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise is finished.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 31, 2026.
