Celtic’s injury problems appear to be turning into a crisis this season, especially after Colby Donovan’s Scotland setback.
The Celtic defender was stretchered off in Scotland U21’s win over Gibraltar midweek and looked like he could be out for a lengthy spell.
National boss Scott Gemmill said young Donovan was in ‘good spirits’ after being rushed to hospital directly from the Europa Point Stadium.
And now, Gemmill has shared the results of the Celtic full-back’s x-ray and confirms that Donovan is now back at Lennoxtown.

Celtic already have Alistair Johnston out and Anthony Ralston only recently recovered from injury, so options are thin on the right full-back position.
However, Gemmill appears to have good news for Celtic and the fans.
Gemmill told The Herald, “He’s gone back to his club.
“We arrived at 5 o’clock on Sunday, but he has gone back to Celtic. He’s too sore to play, but the X-ray was clear.
“The level of care he got in Gibraltar was fantastic, as he went straight to the hospital, straight in for an X-ray, and actually back in the hotel in time to eat his dinner!
“I think with those injuries, you just can’t take any risk. It was clear that he couldn’t continue.
“Hopefully, his ankle can settle down quickly – there’s a chance that Celtic may choose to do their own scan, but that’s obviously a decision they’ll make.”
Celtic’s next fixture and Donovan’s availability
Celtic will face St Mirren on Saturday night and it looks like Martin O’Neill will remain in charge of the Bhoys.
With that game just under five days away, the chances of Donovan being available for the Saturday night Celtic Park clash don’t look good.
Whilst the Scotland scan was clear, Gemmill’s assertion that Celtic could send Donovan for another seems to suggest that the young full-back could be set for a short spell on the sidelines over the coming weeks.
