It has been claimed that the former deputy prime minister was indeed in “talks” to appear on the current series of I’m A Celeb.
Angela Rayner was forced to step down from the front benches in September after it was revealed she hadn’t paid enough stamp duty on a flat.
Hosts Richard Osman and Marina Hyde have now said Rayner “got really quite far” in discussions with ITV.
Speaking on The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Hyde remarked: “I think what happened is obviously she does wish to return to frontline politics. It was made clear that were she to do something like this, there wouldn’t be a way back.
“By the way, I don’t think the people who would have made that clear are in a position to say who does or doesn’t have a way back.
“We’ll have to wait and see but sadly that booking did not occur.”
