Denmark’s Patrick Dorgu and Scotland’s Ben Gannon-Doak battle for the ball
Devastated Patrick Dorgu knows Denmark blew automatic World Cup qualification.
The Danes had it in their hands but then drew at home to Belarus and then only needed a draw at Hampden before they lost two goals in stoppage time.
It means Scotland topped the group and booked their place at the World Cup. Now the Danes need to try and make it through the play-offs.
The Manchester United star stated: “We were there and threw it away. Saturday’s game had nothing to do with the Scotland game. Saturday’s game was bad but we should still have had the best outcome from the game against Scotland. We shouldn’t lose the game. We did and that wasn’t good enough.”
Denmark had twice come from behind to level. Dorgu netted their second at Hampden just nine minutes from normal time. He thought that was the job done.
Dorgu emotionally said: “I felt when I scored I thought surely they are not coming back, but they did. It is football. We are really disappointed that we couldn’t get the win for our fans.
“It is difficult to put words into what has happened. It is part of football and we just need to look forward now.”
The left-back was directly up against Ben Gannon-Doak who set up Scott McTominay’s opening wonder goal.
The winger caused the Danes havoc before he went off injured in the first-half.

Dorgu was up directly against him, but didn’t necessarily share that view.
The 21-year-old claimed: “He wasn’t really causing problems. “He had one cross and that was it. Of course, he had a lot more pace than the other Scotland players on the pitch, but I don’t think it would have changed the course of the game any, if he had stayed on.
“We lost the game and we can’t look at what could have been.”
McTominay’s overhead kick was the pick of the Scotland goals. Dorgu knows him from their time together at United, before the midfielder moved on to Napoli.
Dorgu acknowledged: “It was a good goal but we also have enough good players at United as well. I am happy for him winning the league in Napoli.”
While Scotland celebrated, Denmark were left licking their wounds. Dorgu is confident his country can still join the Scots in America, Mexico and Canada.
The former Lecce player confirmed; “I am confident. We have a good team and we just need to come back strong and sharp for the next games. We need to give it all because we have two finals now. I am confident.”
Club-wise Manchester United have also picked up. Dorgu believes he has a lot to look forward to on all fronts.
“100% we just need to look forward,” he added.
“We are in a really good position at United. We will go back with confidence to help the team to get more wins.
“Denmark is now March. It is a long time and we just need to concentrate on club matters until then.”
