United have been interested in Semenyo since 2018, and so spending the money in January would be far from an impulse buy.
Ben Jacobs has claimed that no financial hurdles are stopping United from signing Semenyo, which is very encouraging for the Red Devils’ chances of acquiring the 25-year-old.
Now, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, Carl Anka has explained that the release clause is actually only valid in January until the 10th of the month.
“The £65M release clause only works for the first 10 days of the January window. If anybody wants to activate it, Semenyo moves, the money is done quickly and that gives Bournemouth the rest of the window to get a deal done.
“Apparently, there’s a similar apparatus for the summer window as well. There’s some apparatus where the fee can be lowered as well.”
Additionally, Semenyo’s release clause is more complicated than just £65m, as Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel on Thursday.
The release clause to sign Semenyo in January is worth an initial £60m plus another £5m in add-ons.
Bournemouth would prefer to keep Semenyo until June, when his release clause drops to £50m; however, Romano points out that it isn’t up to the Cherries.
Manchester United will have to move fast to secure Antoine Semenyo signing
United are in the race to sign Semenyo, as the Ghana international would complete potentially the best front five in the league.
Who is your dream Manchester United signing in 2026?
But if Ineos want Semenyo, a move will need to be made quickly, with just 10 days in January to secure his signature ahead of plenty of interested clubs.
Semenyo and Matheus Cunha on the left of United’s attack is sensational and could be transformational compared to having Diogo Dalot in that left wing-back role.
Semenyo is very versatile, which Amorim will really like, as the team tends to rotate anyway.
With the January 10th deadline now set, United need to make arrangements to sign Semenyo in advance if that is the plan the Red Devils have.
