A man wanted for the rape of a child in France was arrested this week in Liverpool. The 30-year-old suspect from Sri Lanka was detained by The National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Extradition Unit in Liverpool city centre on Wednesday (19 November).
Sujanth Ketheeswararasa appeared in court in London a day later where extradition proceedings began before he was remanded in custody. He was wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl.
He is now expected to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (27 November) and a complete extradition hearing is scheduled to take place on 26 March next year.
Clare Meehan from the NCA’s Joint International Crime Centre said: “There is no greater priority for the NCA than protecting children from sexual abuse.
“Working with partners at home and abroad we traced and located the suspect and executed his arrest. He remains in custody as extradition proceedings commence.”
