One intriguing name is Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. The relegation-threatened side do not really want to lose him, but it is possible they could agree a sale and reinvest the money.
The Mail reported that United have reignited interest in Gomes, who has more than 100 appearances in English football for Wolves.
Now there are new claims from Brazil that suggest interest has taken a step forward.

Brazilian outlet Trivela claims that Manchester United have held talks over a deal for Joao Gomes.
The report explicitly states that the discussions took place between United and Wolves.
The website claims: “According to Trivela, talks between United and Wolves have progressed in recent days.
“There is even an expectation that the transfer will take place in the next transfer window, which begins in January.”
Seeing as it’s mid-November, we aren’t expecting a transfer announcement any time soon. There is still clearly work to be done.
But if a deal does get agreed in January, we will point back to this moment as United laying the groundwork for a successful move.
United signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the summer, who played alongside Gomes and rates him highly.
Gomes has eight caps for Brazil, and aims to succeed Casemiro in midfield for his country – as well as possibly at club level too.
United’s interest in Gomes goes right back to 2022, when he was at Flamengo.
Matheus Cunha thinks Joao Gomes could be as good as Casemiro
“Maybe Casemiro. He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro’s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.
“I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.”

Wolves are currently eight points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League, and host Manchester United next month.
United visit Molineux on December 8, where Gomes will have a chance to audition for Ruben Amorim.
