Helsingborgs IF has made a move to name Stevie Grieve as their new manager.

The Swedish Superettan side has approached SJK for permission to speak to their head coach.

The Finnish side are expected to reluctantly give the green light to open negotiations with their highly-rated 38-year-old.

It is expected that a deal could be done over the coming days, although there is interest from other clubs in Europe and Finland, including HJK.

The Helsingborg club made their move after they sacked Kleber Saarenpaa at the end of the season.

Helsingborgs had finished a disappointing seventh in a campaign where they had been looking to push for promotion back to the top-flight.

Grieve has worked wonders at SJK and took them into the Conference League qualifiers this season.

He has worked with one of the smallest budgets in the Finnish league and they lose a lot of their top players at the end of each season.

Grieve’s success in Finland has also been achieved with one of the youngest squads in European football.

Current Dundee United defender Dario Namoo is one of the players that Grieve helped to develop.

He moved to SJK as head coach of their second team in 2023 and stepped up to the full job last season.

His coaching career began in India with Garhwal and then became academy manager at Burlington SC.

He returned to Scotland to work at Dundee United before he became head of recruitment at St Johnstone and then moved to take up a similar job with Forest Green Rovers.

Grieve made his return to coaching in Finland.
