South Africa all-rounder Marizanne Kapp hit an unbeaten 93 to lead Melbourne Stars to an 18-run win over Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.

Kapp struck nine fours and five sixes in her 51-ball knock to help Stars recover from 44-6 to post 171-8 at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

England all-rounder Danielle Gibson added 30 off 24 to boost the Stars late on.

Last year’s runners-up Heat, who are bottom having lost all five of their matches this season, could only make 153-9 in chasing 172.

Kapp, 35, claimed 2-31, while Australian spinner Sophie Day took 3-28.

Stars are now third in the eight-team league, three points off leaders Hobart Hurricanes, with three wins, one defeat and one no result from their five matches.
