A brand new Sonic the Hedgehog 4 rumor suggests that Paramount is looking for a particular type of star to play the role of Amy Rose in the upcoming sequel.

What’s the latest Sonic the Hedgehog 4 cast rumor?

According to a report from insider Daniel Richtman, Paramount is eyeing an Anya Taylor-Joy type of actor for the role of Amy Rose. It’s unclear exactly what that means, and whether it means someone with Taylor-Joy’s mannerisms, accent, or star power.

Taylor-Joy is no stranger to high-profile video game movies herself. The Queen’s Gambit and Dune: Part Three star voices Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and its upcoming sequel, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. While it’s unlikely that Taylor-Joy will be making the jump to Sega and voicing Amy Rose, it’s clear Paramount is hoping to get an equally big name for its new movie.

Amy Rose briefly appeared at the end of 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In a post-credits scene, Sonic seemingly time travels or teleports away to a different area outside of New York while in a race with Tails. He’s ambushed by a group of Metal Sonics, but saved by Rose, wielding her iconic hammer. In the game franchise, Rose first appeared in Sonic CD.

Currently, little is known about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Rumors suggest the film could be titled Sonic CD, a nod to the 1993 game that introduced time travel into the series, which Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also teases in a post-credits scene at the end of the 2024 movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to arrive in 2027, though, so more information should be coming soon.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 wound up being a huge hit for Paramount. It grossed approximately $492.2 million globally off an estimated $122 million budget, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise. It is also the third-highest-grossing video game movie of all time behind 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie and 2025’s A Minecraft Movie, while it came in tenth place for the highest-grossing movies of 2024.
