Liverpool are still without four first-team players ahead of the visit of PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, with Arne Slot‘s padding out training with academy call-ups.

None of Florian Wirtz, Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong or long-term absentee Giovanni Leoni were part of Liverpool’s open training session on Tuesday.

It comes with a deepening injury situation for the Premier League champions, who are also on a run of eight defeats in their last 11 games in all competitions.

James Norris joins Liverpool first-team training

With PSV heading to Anfield for the fifth round of the Champions League‘s league phase on Wednesday, Slot called up a number of players from the academy to join training.

That included left-back James Norris, who has recently returned from a season-long loan spell with League of Ireland side Shelbourne.

Norris made 45 appearances for Shelbourne after joining on loan in February, but the terms of their agreement only included the domestic season, meaning he left before their Europa Conference League campaign concludes.

However, while Liverpool are without two full-backs for the clash with PSV, neither Norris nor Calvin Ramsay – who trained with the squad on Tuesday – are eligible.

Kaide Gordon can be added to the Champions League squad via List B though, having taken part in the session alongside regulars Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha.

Slot worked with a group of 20 outfield players, with no other new absentees following the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Crucially, that saw Joe Gomez involved, having missed training in the buildup to that loss at Anfield.

Gomez was an unused substitute at the weekend but is expected to start at right-back on Wednesday night, allowing Dominik Szoboszlai to return to midfield.

There could be further changes to the lineup, not least with Andy Robertson likely to take over from Milos Kerkez at left-back and one of Curtis Jones or Alexis Mac Allister dropping out of midfield.

Hugo Ekitike is poised to start up front having been named on the bench against Forest as Slot prioritised Alexander Isak‘s fitness.
