Eos X Space, the aerospace company located in Spain, has acquired its American competitor Space Perspective, breathing new life into the peaceful vision of tourist trips to the fringe of space via balloon transportation. This monumental buyout could transform the future of high-altitude tourism, allowing individuals to behold Earth’s curvature without requiring a rocket.
Space Perspective, founded in Florida, was once viewed as pioneering this nascent form of space travel. The enterprise’s flagship undertaking involved Spaceship Neptune, a lavishly appointed capsule intended to drift serenely into the stratosphere carried by a gargantuan balloon. A single seat aboard one of these excursions carried a steep price of $125,000.
In September of 2024, they carried out a successful test voyage using a capsule called Excelsior, which attained an elevation of nearly 100,000 feet or 30,480 meters. This demonstration validated their technological capabilities, yet just months later, difficulties arose that troubled the company.
Financial Trouble Hits
Early in 2025, Space Perspective faced major financial issues. Reports say the company had to furlough nearly all of its workers in January and later lost access to its workspaces at a Florida airport. The promising startup had quickly gone from headlines to hardship.
That’s when Eos X Space stepped in. Founded in 2020 in Madrid, Eos X had also been working on its own high-altitude balloon capsule. Rather than compete, they saw an opportunity to join forces and move forward together.
On July 24, Eos X Space confirmed it had acquired Space Perspective. While the purchase price wasn’t shared, the company said Space Perspective would still operate in the U.S., with its current team and leadership, and would have full independence.
Expanding into the United States
The deal will also help Eos X Space grow inside the U.S. market. The company announced plans to build two key U.S. facilities:
A launch site at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, which will support balloon flight operations.A new research and development center in Silicon Valley, California, to focus on innovation and design.
In the long term, Eos X Space plans to move its global headquarters to the U.S., showing its strong interest in becoming a major player in the American space industry.
Aiming for the Top in Space Tourism
With this acquisition, Eos X Space hopes to join the top level of space tourism companies. Currently, this group includes SpaceX (offering full orbital flights), Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic (both offering suborbital rocket trips).
Balloon capsules like Spaceship Neptune don’t travel as far or as fast as rockets. However, they offer something unique—a calm, scenic journey to the upper atmosphere. From that height, travelers can see the curve of Earth and the darkness of space. And unlike rockets, balloon flights have little noise or turbulence.
Eos X Space Founder and CEO Kemel Kharbachi said the buyout is more than just a business deal—it’s a bold step toward making space travel available to more people in a safe and peaceful way. “We are building a scalable, ethical and efficient space platform driven by innovation, purpose and excellence,” he said.
What’s Next?
While each company had made progress independently towards offering balloonspace tourism, by merging their talents and assets a new era may now launch. Space Perspective’s tested technologies coupled with Eos X Space’s ambitious expansion aims could at last deliver this emerging industry to eager explorers. numerous enhancements are anticipated in the forthcoming seasons as building marches on at the Kennedy quarters and the fresh West Coast headquarters. Meanwhile, some question if public desire for such adventure may continue growing swiftly enough to sustain new providers or whether current geostrategic tensions could possibly postpone mankind’s next steps skyward. Only future months will show if this union of pioneers can effectively transport paying clients to the astronaut vistas they seek.
