Former Hull KR representative Kris Welham has been awarded a 12-month testimonial by the Rugby Football League after a 19-year playing career, and has selected the Motor Neurone Disease Association charity to support.

Welham fittingly retired after marking his 450th professional appearance at the end of the 2025 Championship campaign, having spent the last four seasons of his career with Sheffield Eagles.

The Hull-born centre played more than 250 of those games in Super League between 2007 and 2020, having started his career with Rovers – making his debut in 2006.

He also represented Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers, Salford Red Devils and England Knights across a decorated career.

The Hull & East Yorkshire Group of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association will be present at his testimonial year launch dinner at The DoubleTree Hilton, Hull on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

The 38-year-old is hoping to raise vital awareness and funds by organising a series of events in 2026, including golf days and dinners. The MND Association will receive a donation from tickets sold throughout his benefit year .

He said: “By choosing the MND Association as my official charity partner, I hope we can in some small way contribute towards funding to help to find a cure to beat this awful disease.”

Jenn Scribbins, relationship fundraiser for North and East Yorkshire at the MND Association, said: “We’re so grateful to Kris for choosing to launch his testimonial year in support of the MND Association.

“The rugby league family continues to show incredible support for people affected by motor neurone disease, and Kris’s commitment means the world to us and the local MND community.

“The funds raised will help us provide vital care and support for people living with and affected by MND in the Hull and East Yorkshire area, as well as contribute to ongoing research into finding a cure.”
