Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal have quietly updated their Instagram bios after their wedding, originally planned for November 23, was unexpectedly postponed. The couple added a nazar emoji, a symbol often used to ward off the evil eye, following a wave of online speculation about their relationship.

The wedding was postponed after Smriti’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. Soon after, Palash also fell ill with severe acidity and a viral infection.

He was first treated in Sangli and later shifted to SRV Hospital in Goregaon, Mumbai, where doctors declared him fit to return home on November 26.

The sudden delay in the wedding led to a lot of talk online. People on Instagram, Reddit and X began looking closely at the couple’s profiles, especially after fans noticed that Smriti had deleted all her wedding-related posts, including her engagement and proposal photos. Since neither Smriti nor Palash said anything publicly, the rumours only grew.

Amid the noise, the change in their bios — a simple nazar emoji — was seen by many as a quiet attempt to shut down gossip and protect their privacy during a difficult time for both families.

While the couple recovers from the emotional and medical stress of the past few days, Smriti has also received support from within the cricketing community.

India teammate and close friend Jemimah Rodrigues has decided to stay back in India rather than rejoin the Brisbane Heat in the Women’s Big Bash League.

The WBBL team said they fully support her decision and have released her from the remainder of the tournament so she can be with Smriti.

The couple has not announced a new wedding date yet, with both families currently prioritising health and recovery.
