The Bears are set to sign another Super League player.
Canterbury Bulldogs half-back Toby Sexton will play in Super League next season.
Perth Bears are reportedly set to sign new Catalans Dragons half-back Toby Sexton ahead of their 2027 inaugural NRL season.
Reports from Australia have claimed that the Bears – who will be integrated into the NRL as its 18th club the season after next – have already signed Leeds Rhinos and England centre Harry Newman, with Sexton now expected to follow suit.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Sexton is set to sign for the new Western Australian club and will therefore spend just the one season in Super League, despite being contracted for two.
Sexton signed a two-year deal with Catalans ahead of 2026. He last played for the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL, with the Sydney club signing Lachlan Galvin mid-season and therefore being in and out of the side – a controversial story that saw the Bulldogs dumped out of the NRL finals after successive defeats.
But still only 24, Sexton has been tipped for an NRL return in the future despite not yet pulling on the Dragons shirt, and one year earlier than what he is currently contracted for.
Speaking to media down under, Perth recruitment boss Dane Campbell said of Sexton: “Toby is a quality first grader, he certainly is a guy we will be looking at.
“Toby is a good person and a good player and harbours an ambition to probably come back to the NRL at some point.”
That return is now expected, at least in Australia, to come in 2027, with reports and interest first emerging down under back in October.
Sexton first debuted in the NRL for Gold Coast Titans before moving to Canterbury in 2023. He has played over 60 times in the competition.
