Natasha Hamilton has hinted she’s getting the girls back together to reunite Atomic Kitten. The 43-year-old was not an original member of the band, but joined the group in time for them to release their debut single way back in 1999.

She found fame alongside fellow members Liz McClarnon, 44, and Kerry Katona, 45 – and was later joined by Jenny Frost, 47, after Kerry sensationally quit the band in 2001 after landing a number one with the hit single Whole Again. The original line-up consisted of Liz, Kerry and future Sugababes star Heidi Range, 42, who exited Atomic Kitten in favour of a different record deal.

While the group have been and gone multiple times – quitting the charts in 2006, only to briefly return in 2008, and then return again in 2012 and gigging occasionally for the following 12 years.

Atomic Kitten have found renewed interest after featuring in the hit BBC documentary, Girlbands Forever, and now Natasha has suggested the group could make a comeback.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the chart-topping star said: “I mean, never say never with a reunion, because nostalgia always hits people at different times, and I’ve spent a lot of time with Jenny this summer.”

She continued: “Obviously Liz has just had a baby so right now is not the right time, but I always say never say never. We’re so close, the three of us, and I’m hopeful that maybe in the future at some point we would be able to come together and do that.”

While she neglected to reference arguably Atomic Kitten’s most famous member, Kerry, Natasha did cast her mind back to her glory days riding the top of the charts.

She said: “I think as the years go by and you get further and further away from it, your mind’s recollection is like, ‘Wow, it is almost like, did it really happen?’ But I know it very much did, and I’ve got wonderful memories, you know we went through some hardship but I feel like the good times definitely outweighed it.”

Girlbands Forever was produced by Louis Theroux and his production company Mindhouse. Explaining his decision to spotlight music icons of the past, he previously said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be part of making this wonderful series.

“I well remember when the Spice Girls, Eternal and All Saints burst on the scene in the 90s. It was a special time in pop music and British culture generally. Then in their wake came a parade of girl bands, made up of girls who were all in different ways beautiful, talented and often very funny.

“Going back and rediscovering all that music and those videos and the interviews they did has been an absolute pleasure.”

He added: “There was pain behind the music, too, and as is so often the case there was price to be paid for that level of young fame. But mainly we wanted this to be a celebration of a time of very special music and talent.”
