Amid Germany’s first state visit to the U.K. in 27 years, Prince William is once again putting his love for Kate Middleton on display. The longtime couple welcomed President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender on Wednesday, December 3 and immediately brought them to Windsor Castle. Once inside, William subtly put his hand on his wife’s back in a sweet show of support during a tour of the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room. Footage of the moment was later shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

As mentioned, this is the first time a head of state from Germany has visited the U.K. in nearly three decades. For their royal welcome, Middleton donned a blue Alexander McQueen coat that she last wore on Christmas Day in 2023—just weeks before she was diagnosed with cancer.

The future queen paired the rather symbolic outerwear with a black Burberry dress, a pair of Princess Diana’s sapphire and diamond earrings, a Juliette Millinery fascinator, and the Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch—a nod to William, who carries that title. Finally, Middleton’s outfit was perfectly coordinated with Queen Camilla’s, which was also blue.
As for her and William’s PDA? Though such gestures were previously rare, the couple has become increasingly comfortable with showing their love for one another in public.
“They are happy for people to see them be touchy-feely,” royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward told People back in March. “They’re in a different phase of their life now. William is very protective and very proud of her for coming through this and carrying on with her life.”
