The global authority on colour, Pantone, has announced that its 2026 Colour of the Year is Cloud Dancer (Pantone 11-4201). A “billowy, balanced white”, the shade serves as a calming influence in a “frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection”.
It’s a more stripped-back offering compared to the foodie-inspired colours of previous years which were Peach Fuzz for 2024 and Mocha Mousse for 2025. Instead, Cloud Dancer evokes a sense of calm and relaxation, and it also signifies a desire for a “fresh start”.

“We are living in a transitional time where people are seeking truth, possibility and a new way of living,” says Laurie Pressman, vice-president of the Pantone Color Institute. “Cloud Dancer exemplifies our search for balance between our digital future and our primal need for human connection.”
Colour of the Year initially started in 1999 as a way to “engage the design community and colour enthusiasts”, by drawing attention to the relationship between culture and colour. It is now hotly anticipated by not only those working in creative fields, but also mainstream colour lovers.
The influence of Colour of the Year can be seen in fashion, interiors and commercial design, and also provides a snapshot of the cultural mood of the moment.
“Conversations relating to our Pantone Color of the Year selection do not take place in one isolated meeting at a specific time of year,” it says on the Pantone website. “It is one long, continuously flowing conversation among a group of colour-attuned people.”
As with past announcements, Pantone has partnered with a number of brands to create a handful of products that showcase Cloud Dancer including stationers Post-It, Motorola, furniture maker Joybird and the child favourite Play-Doh.
Pantone is also set to collaborate with a range of artists and creatives across the year, with Cloud Dancer providing a “blank canvas” for the creative community to interpret the colour of the year in their own way. First up is a limited edition tote bag by illustrator Emiliano Ponzi available on their website.
