A few cheers erupted at Cafe Diplomatico here in Toronto’s Little Italy after the final draw revealed that Canada could play Italy as part of Group B.
“That’s incredible,” says Steve Torchia, who is cheering for both Team Canada and his home country of Italy, adding that it is his dream to watch Canada play Italy here in his hometown of Toronto.
Of course, we won’t know if Italy will qualify until March. Their play-off group also includes Wales, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Northern Ireland.
Overall, Torchia says he feels good about Canada’s grouping. Switzerland will be a tough team to beat, but he expects Canada will give them a good game.
He adds that Team Canada has a good chance of defeating Qatar and coming out in the top two overall.
