ITV viewers were left in shock during last night’s I’m a Celebrity episode after host Ant McPartlin made an off-the-cuff joke referring to addiction issues. This came as Jack Osbourne was named the seventh celebrity to leave the jungle in double eviction, alongside Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley.
The moment unfolded as Jack was seen having a catch up with hosts Ant and Dec moments after he was booted from the camp. The reality TV star was only a few days away from making it to the final, where this year’s king or queen of the jungle will be crowned.
After leaving the camp, Dec asked the 40-year-old: “Has that always been a thing for you?” which prompted Ant to add: “A drinking problem?” Enjoying the quip, Jack laughed before replying: “There is that.” Ant followed his on by joking: “You and me both.”
Both Ant and Jack have been open in the past about their struggles with alcohol and substance misuse, with both stars spending years in recovery, reports the Mirror. Stunned by the comment, many fans quickly took to social media to share their disbelief.
One person recapped the moment, writing: “‘Drinking problem?’ ‘Yeah there’s that’ ‘You and me both!’ ANT?!” While another person added: “Not Ant joking about his drinking problem.”

A third person also questioned: “Did Ant make a drinking joke about a drinking problem there?” Since seeking treatment for his alcohol dependency in 2017 and 2018, Ant has openly discussed his struggles on several occasions.
Back in 2019, he confessed to The Sun that he had been using alcohol for years to mask his unhappiness. He explained: “The longer you drink — and I’m talking about decades of drinking — you use it as escapism and a way to change how you feel. But alcohol is not the solution. You’ve got to deal with where your unhappiness is.”
He recalled that his addiction worsened after he suffered a knee injury in 2015. While this led to a dangerous combination of alcohol and prescription painkillers, he said he hit “rock bottom” when he was rushed to hospital and entered rehab.
Since completing his second stint of treatment, Ant has remained sober and has spoken about how he is now focusing on rebuilding his life.
Over the last two decades, Jack Osbourne has also been candid about his former battle with addiction, which saw him enter rehab at 17 following a period of heavy drinking and drug use.
The Osbournes star later revealed that before attending the adolescent treatment centre in California, he had struggled with pills, weed and alcohol.
While he opened up around the I’m a Celeb campfire about how he got sober as a teenager and has maintained it since, Jack has previously spoken about the constant struggle to stay clean.
In 2021, he said to Variety: “It’s never over. There were times, when I had 10 years sober, and I was raising my hand as a newcomer at a different 12-step recovery group.”
He added: “If you want it, there’s a way to achieve it. It’s kind of like shut your mouth and be willing to take direction. It’s that honesty and open-mindedness, and willingness, to do whatever it takes.”
Jack also confessed to Ant and Dec in this exit interview that being “unplugged” in the jungle had helped him deal with the emotions of losing his dad, Ozzy Osbourne, and that it was something that he “needed”.
He said: “The support from my campmates and it was nice to unplug, although I’m probably more plugged in than ever 24/7. To have that space, no distraction from the outside world in nature, it’s hard in camp but it was basic living which was good for me.”
