The bonus is worth £10 and should enter bank accounts during December before Christmas.
Money will arrive automatically so there’s no need for anyone to apply.
So pensioners should keep an eye on their bank statements so they know when they have received the extra payment.
Millions of retirees are also getting Winter Fuel Payments, worth up to £300.
These are being paid out during November and December, so this cash may have already arrived for many.
The £10 Christmas Bonus aims to help more vulnerable groups, also including people with disabilities and health conditions.

Campaigners have called for the bonus amount to be increased in order to make a real difference.
The Government says: “The Christmas Bonus is a one-off tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas, paid to people who get certain benefits in the qualifying week.
“This is normally the first full week of December.
“You do not need to claim – you should get paid automatically.”
