There is widespread disruption on multiple rail services heading into Liverpool this morning, with “more than 100 annoyed passengers” left waiting at one platform after numerous cancellations. Looking at the National Rail’s website for live arrivals heading into Liverpool Lime Street this morning, there is a lot of disruption affecting different services from different locations.
In terms of Northern’s services heading from outside the region into Liverpool, the 8:26am expected arrival from Warrington is delayed and the service due in at 8:55am from Manchester Oxford Road is delayed.
Elsewhere, the 8:29am service Nottingham on East Midlands Railway is delayed – and so is the train due to arrive at Lime Street at 9am from Cleethorpes.
A Transpennine Express service due to arrive at Liverpool Lime Street from Newcastle at 8:59am is heavily delayed, now expecting to arrive at 9:27am.
And an Avanti West Coast train due to arrive in Liverpool from London Euston at 9:04am is also showing as currently delayed.
There are problem for Merseyrail passengers this morning as well.
There are late running services into Liverpool from Ellesmere Port, West Kirby, Chester and New Brighton.
According to social media updates from the region’s rail operator, signalling issues at Bidston in Wirral are causing issues and delays on the West Kirby line.
A separate post said that a train fault has meant there have been cancellations or alterations on the New Brighton line.
Merseyrail is also offering ticket acceptance on its services for those caught up in disruption on trains run by other operators who have been caught up in disruption this morning.
A post from Merseyrail confirmed: “Ticket acceptance is now in place for both London North Western and East Midlands ticket holders to travel on Merseyrail services between Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool until 10am.”
Another post explained that ticket acceptance is also in place for Transport for Wales ticket holders to travel on Merseyrail services between Liverpool and Chester until midday.
One frustrated commuter attempting to get into Liverpool Lime Street this morning told the ECHO of their disrupted journey.
He said: “I initially bought a ticket for the 8.17am service at Mossley hill but shortly before leaving my house I saw it had been cancelled.
“It was annoying but I knew there was one less than 20 minutes later. I got to the station and just minutes before the train was due to arrive it said it was delayed because of electrical wiring issues.
“And just 10 minutes later when the next service was due it said the same thing. I understand these issues happen but it’s the lack of appropriate announcements and only finding out the train is delayed minutes before it’s due to arrive.
“There was probably 100 annoyed people on the platform who either had to find a different way of getting to work or just wait not knowing when they would be able to get a train. It’s not an ideal start to the week.”
The ECHO is making enquiries to find out the issues behind the numerous delays.
