Organisers say that, despite horrible weather conditions, a “fantastic crowd braved the elements” at Sunday’s Cleanhire UK Ltd Christmas Markets and Legends Game.

Arranged by The Steve Prescott Foundation (SPF), the event raised vital funds for the charity and for former Saints, Leigh and Warrington hooker Higham, 45, who is bravely tackling cancer.
It was reported earlier in the year that Higham was facing stage 4 metastatic cancer
Among those to turn out where ex-Saints captains Chris Joynt and James Roby, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Mike Bennett, Matty Smith, Maurie Fa’asavalu and Ade Gardener.
They were joined by 20 fundraisers, each earning the chance to take the field alongside some of “the greatest names to play the game”, the SPF added.
On of those was Phil Whyte, who single-handedly raised a £3,600 — and went on to score the first try of the game.
Garswood Stags ARLFC provided a number of players and coach Paul Loughlin, the former Saints and Great Britain player.

Martin Blondel, of the Steve Prescott Foundation, said: “These events only happen thanks to the support of incredible partners and sponsors — and we are deeply grateful to each one – and all the stall holders.”

Funds still being finalised, however, it is anticipated that more than £10,000 has been raised.
Proceeds will be equally divided between The Steve Prescott Foundation and The Micky Higham Fund, which support the Rugby League Benevolent Fund, Rugby League Cares, and The Christie Charity.
