York Knights secure ex-Hull KR man to new deal

York Knights have secured the services of former Hull KR and Wakefield Trinity man Will Dagger on an upgraded deal.

Dagger has been with the Knights since the start of the 2024 season after penning a three-year contract, but he has agreed a full-time deal for 2026 he prepares to step up to Super League once more.

The full-back saw injuries restrict him to making just seven appearances under Mark Applegarth last season, but he managed to make a mark in his first year with the club, scoring six tries in 14 appearances.

Dagger knows what Super League is all about having spent most of his career to date in the top flight. After breaking through and making four appearances at Warrington Wolves, the 26-year-old joined Hull KR in 2018 and spent over five seasons in east Hull.

He played 50 times for Rovers, scoring five tries, and while he was never considered to be a clear first choice, he played a vital role for the club during the period.

His last spell in Super League came with Wakefield, with 17 outings coming in what was a difficult 2023 campaign for the West Yorkshire club under Applegarth.

And, after penning renewed terms with York, he’ll be keen to have another crack at the top flight and help York make a splash.

“He got a bit of an injury that disrupted his year last year, so he had to be really patient, trying to wait for his way back in the team,” Applegarth said on Dagger.

“But he’s come back in really good shape and he looks like he’s got the bit between his teeth to earn that number one shirt back.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

Dagger said: “A new league. A new challenge!

“Myself, the lads and the coaching staff are all up for it and we can’t wait to do the city proud.”
