Canelo Alvarez will defend his undisputed super-middleweight crown against Terence Crawford in just over one month’s time.

The two pound-for-pound superstars will collide at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday 13 September, in an event that will be broadcast worldwide live on Netflix.

It sees Crawford attempt to upset the odds when he steps up two divisions from 154lbs to 168lbs, bidding to become undisputed in a third weight class after previously managing it at super-lightweight and welterweight.

Another fighter that knows a thing or two about jumping up two weight classes for a fight is four-weight world champion Mikey Garcia, who after reigning from featherweight to super-lightweight, headed from 135lbs to 147lbs for a clash with Errol Spence in March 2019.

Garcia was unable to pull off the upset, as Spence made the size advantage count by claiming a dominant unanimous decision victory, with the judges scoring it 120-108, 120-108 and 120-107 in his favour.

Ahead of the Canelo vs. Crawford showdown, Garcia has now given his prediction to ESNews, and while he may have come up short himself when he headed up in weight, he is backing Crawford for the victory.

“I think Crawford is going to win. I think he’s going to box him.”

Garcia was then asked if ‘Bud’s inactivity since August 2024 could be a factor in the fight, but he doesn’t believe it will be.

“He’s been training. He’s got the skill level, the IQ.”

One fighter who has previously sparred both Canelo and Crawford in his career has also given his prediction for the upcoming bout, siding with Canelo based on the size factor.
