Gavin & Stacey co-creators Ruth Jones and James Corden are doing a huge “audience with” style show about the show in which they will share “never heard before” stories and recount the story of how the hugely popular BBC sitcom came to be.
When Gavin Met Stacey – An Evening With Ruth Jones and James Corden will take place at the London Palladium on October 6. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, August 1 and you can buy them on Ticketmaster.
The show’s official description promises that the show will be “full of revelations and never-before-heard stories” and is a “one-of-a-kind event about a show that’s already gone down in history.”
Corden and Jones worked together initally on ITV comedy-drama Fat Friends before coming together to create Gavin & Stacey, which first aired in 2007 on BBC Three.
They have been friends for 25 years.
The duo will talk about the rejection, obstacles and challenges they faced on the way to giving birth to their beloved comedy creation. It will also explore their real-life friendship which they say is based also on a deep, shared sense of subversive fun. From their tentative initial pitch to the emotionally overwhelming final day of filming, the duo detail what’s occurred every step of the way, bouncing off each other in inimitable style.
The live show is in celebration of the pair’s new book in Gavin & Stacey, When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between, set for release on October 9.
Earlier in spring 2025 Corden and Jones appeared at Hay Festival to talk about the new book and the show’s legacy and back in May, Ruth Jones won the Bafta for best female performance for her portrayal of Nessa in the show’s finale.
Ruth said at the ceremony: “The person I would like to thank most is my dear, dear, talented, lovely, kind, funny friend, James Corden, with whom I have shared this astonishing journey with for the past 17 years and without whom Nessa Shenessa Jenkins would simply not exist.
“I love you, James, I love writing with you, long may it continue.”
Gavin & Stacey ended a 17-year run if new episodes in 2024 after three series and three specials. The latter two festive episodes came after a near decade’s break, in 2019, and the finale took another five years to arrive before sending fans over the moon in 2024.
The 2019 and 2024 Christmas specials of this well-loved show garnered viewing figures of 18 million and 21 million respectively.
