Murderers and sex offenders enjoyed a taxpayer-funded Christmas party with the top civil servants responsible for running Northern Ireland’s jails.

The get-together in the Burren House open prison that saw director general of the Northern Ireland Prison Service Beverley Wall enjoy a turkey dinner with 20 lifers including glued lips killer Adrian Hayes, cut-throat murderer Andy Robinson and sex predator Tom Ward, has been branded “tone deaf” by staff.
