Welling United Football Club wish to issue the following statement regarding the postponement of our Isthmian League Premier Division fixture against Potters Bar Town on Saturday, December 13th.
It is alleged that, prior to kick-off, an incident occurred which resulted in the police being called. Following this, and after consulting with the relevant bodies, the referee made the decision to postpone the fixture.
As this matter is now subject to an ongoing investigation, Welling United will not be making any further comment at this time.
We would like to thank our supporters for their patience, understanding and continued support. Our dedicated volunteers had worked tirelessly to create a festive atmosphere for the day and we were understandably disappointed that their efforts could not be fully realised.
Thank you to everyone who remained at the ground and joined us in enjoying festive food, drinks and a real sense of togetherness despite the absence of a fixture.
We will keep supporters informed of any further developments once we are in a position to do so.
