A veteran prop who recently retired has confirmed his future by announcing a coaching role with Super League side St Helens.

Adam Sidlow called time on his lengthy career last week with the 38-year-old hanging up the boots and bringing an end to a playing career that started way back in 2006.

Sidlow debuted for Widnes back in 2006 and would play the final game of his career in August 2025, finishing on a win as Swinton Lions beat Rochdale Hornets. That final game came 7,049 days after his first, or just over 19 years and three months.

During that career, Sidlow spent time with Salford Red Devils, Bradford Bulls, Toronto Wolfpack and Leigh, playing in Super League as recently as 2023 with the Red Devils.

He also represented Workington and Oldham before spending his final season with Swinton but after calling time on his playing career, he’s now announced a move into coaching after landing a role with St Helens.

Adam Sidlow joins St Helens’ Scholarship coaching staff

Sidlow has taken to his LinkedIn to confirm his new role, having previously used the platform to announce his retirement in a lengthy and emotional post.

Confirmation of his gig at St Helens was far more succinct as he stated: “I’m happy to share I’m starting a new position as Assistant Scholarship Coach at St Helens RFC.”

St Helens’ website confirms him as one of several scholarship coaches with no mention of Sidlow being an assistant, though eight different coaches are listed implying some will be more senior than others.

With the experience of over 300 professional games, Sidlow will be a huge asset to St Helens and their Scholarship programme and will have new Saints head coach Paul Rowley as a familiar face at the club given he played under Rowley just two years ago.
