WISE COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) — A group at UVA Wise is making history by launching a best selling author’s book to the moon. News Five’s Natalea Hillen learns more about the project and how it represents Southwest Virginia.
Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’ book is being sent to the South Pole of the moon in December. With the goal to inspire people and students to find their life purpose.
Best selling author, Napoleon Hill was born in Wise County in 1883 with a vision, to help people find their purpose in life.
The first one he always said was desire, starting point of all achievements, you got to know what you want, said Napoleon Hill Foundation Executive Director, Don Green.
UVA Wise’s Napoleon Hill Foundation has been operating for 25 years, to pass along Hill’s mission in countless publications he has written.
Our motto is making the world a better place. It’s based on the writings of Napoleon Hill, said Green.
And now, the foundation is sending Hill’s famous ‘Think and Grow Rich’ book that he wrote in 1937 to the moon.
To teach people what possibilities there are. The 3 p’s you got to have a purpose. Then you got to make sure you have a plan. The final thing is we have to have persistence, said Green.
The rocket taking off from Florida in December.
It’s getting blasted off from Cape Canaveral on Space X. There won’t be astronauts on this one, it will just be data, said Green.
The data getting dropped on on the moon in a preservable case accessed through a QR code.
Think of it as a micro film. It can contain a book just in that amount of space, said Green.
Napoleon Hill Foundation Executive Director, Don Green said they want to show students the importance of a class UVA Wise offers called ‘Keys to Success’ which is based on the book.
We just want to show the importance of it and get young people interested because we want to attract them to the course and they can learn what their potential is and what is possible, Green said.
The space X rocket launch is more than just a book going to the moon, it’s a motivational message that marks history.
With the technology they can locate it. It might be two years or 5 years, but you know travel to the moon will be more frequent as time goes by, said Green. They see that this only a small beginning to what is possible. If we can reduce a book to a size of a dime, the possibilities are unbelievable, Green said.
