Rapper Ja Rule came within inches of disaster when he skewed a tee shot into the crowd at Derek Jeter’s charity golf tournament.

Remarkable footage, captured from just meters away, shows Ja Rule teeing off with people surrounding the tee box in the Bahamas.

‘I have to ignore y’all right now, I have to put this thing up,’ the rapper said as he lined up his tee shot.

But rather than soar down the fairway, the ball flew low and right into a group of photographers gathered nearby.

Ja Rule immediately apologized as other members of the crowd recoiled in fear. No one appeared to have suffered serious injury.

A video of the incident was captured by Golfweek reporter Adam Schupak who, only 24 hours earlier, had detailed a conversation with the rapper. Ja Rule explained that he took up golf during the pandemic and quickly became hooked.

The Derek Jeter Invitational, organized by the baseball legend, has brought a star-studded crowd to the Caribbean this week.

Among those to take part in recent years are sports icons Bryson Dechambeau, Michael Jordan and Michael Strahan, as well as music stars Ludacris and Flo Rida.

The event helps raise awareness and support for the Turn 2 Foundation, which aims ‘to create and support signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and “Turn 2” healthy lifestyles.’
