A family mystery drama starring Elizabeth Olsen is heading to our home screens after the pilot was picked up to series.

Titled Seven Sisters, the FX show follows a “large, tight-knit family” whose ties unravel as one sister, Adrienne (Olsen), starts communicating with a mysterious voice that nobody else seems to be able to hear.

The bizarre incident forces the family to confront secrets that have long been buried.

Olsen stars opposite The Penguin’s Emmy-winning star Cristin Milioti, Odessa Young, Succession star Zoë Winters, Meredith Hagner, Bridget Brown and Carolyn Kettig as the titular sisters.

J Smith-Cameron and ER star Anthony Edwards play their parents, while Philip Ettinger portrays their brother, and New Amsterdam’s Ryan Eggold features as Adrienne’s husband.

The series pilot marked a reunion between Olsen and director Sean Durkin, who sat behind the camera of her feature film debut, acclaimed thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Seven Sisters is created by Will Arbery, a playwright also known for being a writer on Succession.

Not much has been revealed about the show’s “unexpected twist” at this stage. What is certain is that the upcoming series is set to keep viewers guessing “until the very end”, as the president of FX Entertainment, Gina Balian, teased (via Deadline).

“We’ve been on the lookout for a compelling family drama, and when Will Arbery and Garrett Basch brought us Seven Sisters, we found one that felt uniquely FX,” Balian said in a statement.

“It lives in the deep relatable dynamics of adult siblings and their parents but does so in a way that’s bold and original with an unexpected twist.

“This group of incredibly gifted actors brings this family’s secrets to life in a way that will draw audiences in and keep them guessing until the very end.”

On Instagram, Arbery shared the news of the series order, joking: “making a television program, pray for me”.

Meanwhile, star Cameron praised the “compelling” script and Durkin’s direction.

“So excited!! The script of the pilot was so compelling and Sean’s vision for it soooo interesting, interesting visually, pacing, tone, etc.,” the actor commented. “I am ecstatic with this greenlight!”

Seven Sisters is set to air on FX in the US. Transmission details for the UK are to be confirmed.
