Newcastle United backers PIF have injected £45million into the club funds ahead of the January transfer window.
Companies House provided an update on Thursday just hours after the Magpies reached their third Carabao Cup semi-final in four years.
The figure is one of a series of capital injections pushed into Newcastle’s coffers by the owners and comes just before the winter trading period. The move follows a £106.5m contribution back in autumn meaning PIF and the Reuben family have now pumped in more than £500m since the takeover in 2021.
It remains to be seen where the new injection will be invested but it is expected to be ploughed into day to day running costs for the Magpies. As reported on Chronicle Live yesterday, sporting director Ross Wilson is ready for his first January window, and PIF are ready to inject fresh funds to beef up the squad for the second half of the campaign.
And while there is an understanding that major surgery is not required, key areas will be looked at in the next few days as Newcastle get ready to whittle down a transfer short-list.
PIF spent over £200m in the summer but will now provide backing to bring in a new centre-back, full-back cover, and potentially another forward.
Club director Jamie Reuben had said last autumn: “They (fans) should rest assured we are working hard. We have worked hard all summer to make sure the team is in the best possible condition to compete at the highest level of football.
“That is what we always want. We have worked hard and will continue working very hard up until the last second to make sure the team is in tip top shape for the campaign ahead.”
Speaking about PIF’s commitment to the black and white cause, CEO David Hopkinson said this month: “This is a major, major global player.
“But I truly believe in my heart of hearts that we are their favourite investment. I think we take up so much of their shared mind and heart, way more than would be warranted given the size of the investment. I feel like we’re a special investment to them. I feel that, not because they tell me that, but because they show me that. I’m talking to the PIF every single day. “
