Hull FC star Cade Cust is raring to go for 2026 with the Australian speaking about his new position and where the club are at in pre-season.

Cust arrived ahead of the 2025 season as one of a host of new signings, including Aidan Sezer, with whom he formed a strong halves partnership for much of the year.

The Black and Whites had signed Jordan Abdull to play six with Cust recruited as a hooker or utility, a role that he still did play at times, but Abdull’s release saw the former Wigan man spend much of his time in the halves.

With Jake Arthur signed from the NRL ahead of the 2026 season, it was expected that Cust would revert to his hooker role alongside Amir Bourouh, and a post on social from Hull FC has confirmed that to be the plan.

Their squad numbers had previously suggested that with Cust handed the number 14 shirt, however, this recent post has locked it in.

Taking to Instagram, the Black and Whites shared some quotes from Cust, captioned: “A live wire out of nine”, confirming Cust’s role once again and it’s one he is very familiar with.

Despite signing with Wigan to play six, Cust has transitioned into a nine during his time in England and looking ahead to 2026, he explained: “I’ve played plenty of nine throughout my career so it’s not a position that I’m unfamiliar with.

“I’m really looking forward to interchanging in that role with Amir (Bourouh) and playing off the back of our big forward pack.”

That forward pack includes new signings Harvie Hill, Sam Lisone, Joe Batchelor and James Bell, whilst Ligi Sao is also back from injury.

Such recruits have seen some talk of Hull FC as a dark horse for 2026 and Cust offered an update on pre-season so far, with the Black and Whites set to ramp things up in the New Year.

He expalined: “It should be a great year, we’ve started well in pre-season. The balance between having some fun and getting our work done has been spot on.

“Now we’ve got one big push in the New Year to get ourselves ready for the warm-up matches.”
