Coronation Street has revealed explosive scenes for Eva Price as her feud with her mother-in-law Maggie reaches “boiling point”. Both women lock horns on Christmas Day, but who will be left standing?
Tensions between Eva and Maggie have clearly been bubbling away long before Eva made her return to the cobbles. The pair have rarely shared the screen without a squabble, leaving Ben Driscoll caught in the middle.
In yesterday’s episode, viewers learnt that Eva had been hiding a secret termination from Ben, with Adam Barlow being her confidant at the time. But after Adam encourages a guilt-ridden Eva to write down her feelings, meddling Maggie finds the letter and hand delivers it to her son.
“It’s boiling point on Christmas Day. Eva and Maggie have always had that sort of relationship where they are going to hurl insults at each other, but most of the time, they laugh it off,” explained Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva.

“But I think, for Maggie, it certainly runs a bit deeper than that in as much that I don’t think anybody would ever quite be good enough for her golden boy.
“Maggie’s just constantly hurling things at Eva, and she hurls something really big at Eva on Christmas Day, and everything just kind of explodes. So, it was great fun to play.”

After discovering the letter, Maggie waits for the perfect moment to strike. She watches Eva and Ben happily exchanging gifts on the big day, before she decides to drop the bombshell.
As the family and their guests all sit down for dinner, Maggie unveils Eva’s letter, causing a huge showdown in The Rovers. Later, someone is found lying unconscious in the ginnel. But who is responsible for the nasty attack?
“Things very quickly backfire. I think what she probably should have done is burnt the letter after writing it. But you live and learn!” Tyldesley added. “All [Eva] wants is for everyone to have a fabulous time, I feel quite sad that it doesn’t turn out the way she wanted.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
