Rangers face a major battle to lure Josh Windass back to Ibrox after seeing their opening loan bid booted out by Wrexham.
Record Sport understands that Gers gaffer Danny Rohl is keen to be reunited with the former Ibrox star, who he managed at Sheffield Wednesday. But he’s already seen his first loan offer knocked back by the Welsh outfit, who are reluctant to let the 31-year-old leave after an electric start at the Racecourse.
Windass followed Rohl out the Hillsborough exit this summer as he quit the English Championship crisis club to join second-tier newsboys Wrexham. He quickly established himself as a leading man at the club owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, netting six goals and providing three assists in 21 appearances so far.
But the Red Dragons are determined to cling on to the frontman, who they signed on a deal until 2028, and will resist any further loan offers from Glasgow.
It also looks like Rangers will be priced out of a permanent move for Englishman, with his wages understood to be a serious sticking point. But Windass would not be against holding talks with his former employers.
He spent two years at Ibrox between 2016 and 2018, scoring 19 goals in 73 appearances.

He quit Gers to join Wigan but soon moved on to Wednesday in January 2020. It was in Yorkshire that he first teamed up with Rohl.
Windass is a huge admirer of the German coach’s methods after watching Rohl rescue the ailing club from relegation during his two-year stint as Owls boss.
Meanwhile, it’s also been reported that Rangers are keeping tabs on Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens.
The 22-year-old Westerlo defender is a regular for his club and the Belgium U21s and could be another target for Rohl as he looks to beef up his defensive options.
