Barcelona star Jules Kounde’s wages would be “enormous” if he were to make the move to Manchester City this summer.
Pep Guardiola has been a long-term admirer of the France international, who is a regular starter for Barcelona.
RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins reported on 21 July Man City have made an enquiry about the 26-year-old’s availability.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the club have been close to signing Kounde previously.
The versatile defender, who joined Barcelona for £41.9million from Sevilla in 2022, registered four goals and eight assists in 53 appearances last season.
Man City have been active in the transfer window, having signed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Sverre Nypan this summer.

Man City interested in Jules Kounde deal
Borson revealed signing Kounde would be a “very expensive” deal for Man City.
He told Football Insider: “Barcelona very rarely sell first-team players.
“Despite all of their troubles, they always seem to find a way and they never seem to sell. Kounde is definitely a first-team player.
“City have been close to buying him before. I can imagine City would have an interest in the player, but he’s very expensive.
“The wages will be enormous and high up on City’s list. I think if there was an opportunity, then City would look at it.
“But I’m very skeptical about all Barcelona deals because their troubles never seem to properly bite, and they don’t seem to react to them.
“They always do get through them, so they’re right not to sell and I wouldn’t put much on it.”
