Good Morning Britain fans have flooded one well known star with messages of support as he bid goodbye to the programme after 25 years on ITV. Journalist Richard Gaisford presented his final segment on the morning news programme this morning before issuing his goodbyes. The 53-year-old announced his plans to leave GMB in October this year.
Ahead of this morning’s live broadcast on Wednesday (December 24), Richard revealed today would be his final appearance on the show, the Mirror reports. Sharing a clip of an old-fashioned movie countdown to Instagram, he wrote: “Counting down to my final @gmb broadcast.
“My last ever scheduled programme is tomorrow, after nearly 26 years. See you in the morning!” Speaking live on air, Richard paid a heartbreaking farewell to his viewers after 25 years on ITV.
In an updated post today, he uploaded his goodbye message to Instagram as he captioned the video: “End of an era @gmb.”
He first started off as Chief Correspondent on GMTV, before joining GMB in 2014, when the show began. Speaking from the studio while Richard was outside Westminster, Charlotte Hawkins began: “I want to take this moment to say goodbye and thank you to Richard G who has been with us here on ITV Breakfast for 26 years now.

“He is a much loved member of our team, he has travelled around the world for GMB. Been in war zones, covered all sorts of diff stories over the years.
“He is an exceptional journalist, he is the best, we wish him all the best. Richard, thank you so much. You will be very much missed.”
Ed Balls added: “On behalf of the viewers, thank you for all of that public broadcasting service you have given, finding truth and objectivity and telling all of us what is really going on with that extra special bit of analysis which we have always got from you.
“As a newbie on the block I have learned a lot for you over the last few years. Thank you very much.”
Richard then replied: “It’s been a privilege. I have had the best job in television, and worked with the most incredible people.
“I will miss all of you immensely and wish you the best of luck with what happens next year. I am out there looking for some new adventures.”
After appearing on air for the last time, he was flooded with kind tributes from fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, as one wrote: “Congratulations Richard, broadcasting legend, whatever adventure is next, well done!”
Another said: “Ah Richard, as a viewer you’ve been in my mornings for as long as I can remember.
“Normally out somewhere cold and dark to be fair.
“I will miss you, as I’m sure many of us will, but wishing you every success in your new adventures. I hope to see you on my screen again!”
A third penned: “Good luck, Richard. Thank you for being part of my morning for the last 9 years.”
