Wales scrum-half Tomos Williams’ move to Saracens is set to be announced on Christmas Day at 10am after fans appeared to work out a cryptic message from the English club.

Williams’ exit from Gloucester was confirmed earlier this month, with Saracens expected to be his destination amid a transfer merry-go-round in the English PREM.

Saracens posted a social media message on Christmas Eve, teasing some big incoming news on Christmas Day morning. A photo of a player’s hand about to catch a gift-wrapped ball came with the message: “Come back tomorrow for some Christmas magic.”

Now, eagle-eyed fans have found the original image used by Saracens to plug the announcement, uncovering that the man in the picture is Williams.

Williams has been the Cherry and Whites’ best player since signing in 2024 and was named Premiership Player of the Season in June. He is the club’s captain this season.

A statement confirming his exit just over a week ago read: “Tomos Williams will depart Gloucester Rugby at the end of the 2025/26 season.

“After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new deal to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, but has instead opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.

“The Welshman will depart with the best wishes of everyone at the club when the time comes, but in the meantime, is entirely dedicated to ending his time at Gloucester Rugby on a high.”

The 30-year-old has 69 caps for Wales and will be a key man in the Six Nation early in the New Year. He was selected for the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour but left the squad early after suffering an injury.

He will be replaced at Gloucester by former academy graduate Dan Robson, who returns to the club after 10 years.

He will be joined by Wales duo Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake who are both confirmed to be joining from the Ospreys next season.
