One of the heavyweight division’s big names is seemingly having trouble speaking to his own promoter.
The banner weight class in boxing features a number of massive stars, including the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker to name a few.
Parker’s last fight saw him take on another known fighter that was touted by some to achieve big things in the sport, Congo heavyweight Martin Bakole.
After wins over fighters such as Jared Anderson and Carlos Takam, Bakole stepped in on extremely short notice back in February to face Parker, but suffered a second round TKO defeat.
He then returned to action in May, but put in a heavily-criticised performance as he was held to a majority decision draw against Efe Ajagba.
Nearly three months on from that bout, there is still no news on what Bakole’s next move will be, and his trainer Billy Nelson has revealed to Boxing Social that the heavyweight’s promoter, BOXXER, has not been in touch for a while.
“I’ve had no contact from BOXXER for 10 weeks now which is very concerning. There have been no returns of phone calls with Ben Shalom. Bitterly disappointed with that but hopefully he’ll pick up the phone shortly and we can start discussing the next fight.”
Boxxer and Ben Shalom are currently searching for a new TV deal, after their existing partnership with Sky Sports ended earlier in the summer. It has been reported this week that one of their recent big names, Joshua Buatsi, is set to sign a deal with rivals Queensberry.
Bakole is the highest ranked heavyweight in Shalom’s stable, and a man he had once branded ‘the most avoided fighter in the division.’
