An award-winning national burger chain is getting ready to take over a historic building at the heart of Nottingham.

A planning application has been submitted on behalf of The Beefy Boys, requesting permission to make changes to a Grade II listed property in Queen Street in the city centre.

The building was occupied by George’s Great British Kitchen until September 2024 and is sandwiched between Manahatta bar and Bill’s Restaurant.

The Beefy Boys, founded by four childhood friends, has five sites in England, including in Oxford, Hereford and Bath.

The popular burger brand made a name for themselves scooping Burger of the Year and Burger Chef of the Year at the National Burger Awards in 2023 and their food is described as “the ultimate burger experience”.

Before its imminent move to the city, the company has asked Nottingham City Council for permission to make alterations to both the inside and outside of the Queen Street building.

This includes a small single-storey extension at the rear, a new coldroom store and installation of replacement signage.

Submitting documents on behalf of the applicant, development consultancy firm Pegasus Group said the plans were “developed in response to the existing fit out whilst also seeking to enhance the wider architectural and historic interest of the building”.

The Beefy Boys specialise in burgers that are 100 per cent meat, which is high-quality grass-fed Herefordshire beef.

Fan favourites include Butter Garlic Boy, Hell Boy 2:0 with Hotter Than Hell ghost chilli pepper sauce, and PBJ Boy flavoured with bacon jam and chipotle peanut butter.

Last month, the company was named the 15th Best BBQ Joint in the World (Outside the USA) by The Underseasoned BBQ Show, an international podcast dedicated to barbecue culture.
