Lewis Hall knows exactly where Newcastle United are going wrong this season and wants some of the issues to be addressed.
While Newcastle United’s list of issues this season is extensive, the fact they keep conceding from set-pieces is a problem.
Indeed, Patrick Dorgu’s strike in Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United came from a throw-in.
Would Unai Emery have won a trophy as quickly as Eddie Howe if Newcastle appointed him in 2021 instead?

Nick Woltemade’s poor clearance from Diogo Dalot’s long throw teed Dorgu up and while the Dane still had an awful lot to do, it was an avoidable goal to concede.
Concession from set-pieces has long been an issue this season and Hall knows it.

“That’s something that we’ve conceded [from] a lot more than we want to this year, whether that be a corner, throw-in, second-phase. That’s definitely something we need to look at and improve on.”
Those improvements can only be made on the Newcastle United training ground, although Eddie Howe does not have much time to find solutions given the relentless fixture schedule.
How many goals Newcastle United have conceded from set-pieces this season
Newcastle have conceded seven goals direct from set-pieces this season, which sees them rank 10th in the Premier League table for that metric.
Last season, they only conceded eight in total, which gave them the fifth-best record across the division.
Newcastle did appoint a set-piece coach earlier this summer in the form of Martin Mark but the team are yet to see the benefit of that.

There are bigger issues at the club, namely the state of limbo fans are in when it comes to a potential move to a new stadium and training ground.
That can’t be controlled, however. What can be addressed in the immediate term is their dreadful defending from set-pieces.
