Teams can sign players again from January 1, with the St Mary’s side said to be on the verge of confirming the 25 year old Israeli international.
Peretz is currently on loan at Bundesliga outfit Hamburg, but he has served as backup to the number one and played only two cup matches.
In December, Peretz told national press: “I expected to be number one. So far, this has not been the case. Of course, I’m not happy about it.
“I make no secret of that. I don’t think any footballer is satisfied if he doesn’t play. My goal is still to play every game.”
Meanwhile, Saints are looking to improve on Gavin Bazunu, who has been statistically one of the worst shot-stoppers in the Championship this season.
German football outlet Bild have reported that Peretz is now set to switch Hamburg for Saints ‘with immediate effect’, joining on loan for the campaign.
Saints have been regularly linked with Peretz, including ahead of the summer transfer window earlier in 2025, when they did not sign a number one.
Peretz has made seven appearances for Bayern since joining from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2023, where he played 24 times in UEFA competition.
He saved two Erling Haaland penalties in a World Cup qualifier in October this year, although the striker scored a hat-trick as Norway won 5-0.
Head coach Tonda Eckert has refused to be publicly critical of Bazunu, 23, but is said to privately agree that the position needs to be bolstered.
