Hull FC trialist Jack Rampton will look to gain valuable first-team experience following his confirmed loan move to Hunslet RLFC. The Championship outfit have announced the winger’s arrival on an initial two-week loan deal.

Rampton linked up with the Black and Whites last month on a trial basis, marking his reserves debut with a 90-metre intercept try in a 14-10 victory over Hull KR.

The 24-year-old has played in the union code, predominately in the 7s format and representing Jamaica. He has also tried his luck at the 15-man version of the code, and played for Reading-based community outfit Rams Rugby Football Club last season.

He suffered a minor groin injury earlier this month, but made a try-scoring return in a reserves defeat to Wigan Warriors at Robin Park Arena.

Hailing from Basingstoke, the speedster will now aim to play at first-team level following his move to the second-tier division. Hull FC had been actively looking to find a loan deal for the outside-back, with the player ‘determined’ to make it in rugby league.

Hull FC head coach John Cartwright previously told Hull Live : “He’s only been here for a couple of weeks, but he’s done a lot of travelling during his career with the 7s, so he’s used to being in different environments. He’s very determined to make it here, and that’s a big bonus for him as well.

“We’ve got to get him some football. We’ve only got four games left in the reserve grade. He’ll play here as much as he possibly can, but it’d be lovely to get him a gig on a weekly basis. He’s got all the skills – it’s just that the game is new to him.

“We can train him as much as we like – that will help – but the real help will come when we can play him week to week at a decent level. He’s got a basic knowledge – he can catch, pass, and run – it’s just tying that into rugby league – sometimes that can be a bit difficult.”

Currently at the bottom of the Betfred Championship table, Hunslet travel to Doncaster on Sunday, August 3, before hosting current leaders York Knights.
